About FECT

FECT

FECT arose out of a collaborative project between the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka and the Earth Institute at Columbia University on climate and water resources in 2000. In the subsequent decade, other  projects were undertaken on  human elephant conflict, rice, tea and coconut productivity, disaster risk management, infectious disease risk and rain water harvesting.  To sustain the capacity developed from these projects, we registered FECT as a non-profit company in 2003. Our work is oriented towards developing usable scientific and technological information that can be applied by users in diverse sectors. We work actively with Sri Lankan partners in government institutions, Research Institutes and Universities. Further information about FECT is found at www.climate.lk. FECT has also been working in Maldives since 2007.

FECT staff have expertise in climate, environmental engineering, integrated water resources management, natural resources management, statistical analysis and information technology. FECT has approximately 20 alumni working in other related organizations. We also have adjunct senior staff members who can be called upon to assist the students.
