Overview
FECT provides its past experience in sustainable
development including case studies, mentoring through its network
of staff, associates and partners, its library and computing
resources to support students. Below you shall find access to case
studies and access to library holdings.
Reports
We have undertaken about 10 projects and the reports for
these are available
with us. The reports for the following projects are available for

- Climate Information
for Mahaweli River Basin Management (2000-to date):
We collaborated with the International Research Institute for
climate and society and the Mahaweli Authority to identify the
potential use of seasonal climate information for water resource
- Climate Change and
Variability and Tea and Coconut Plantations in Sri Lanka
(2002–6): We collaborated with the Tea and
Coconut Research Institutes and the Department of Meteorology. View Document
- Climate and
Human-Elephant Conflict (2001–4): We
identified the climate influences on human elephant conflict in
Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Mahaweli Authority and the
Department of Wildlife Conservation. View Document
- Climate and Natural
Disaster Risk (2002–5): The risks posed by
multiple natural hazards (droughts, floods, landslides and
cyclones) in Sri Lanka were identified. .View Document
- Malaria Risk Mapping
and Early Warning Systems (2003–7): We
contributed to a project on climate and malaria in Sri Lanka in
collaboration with the IRI, IWMI and others to develop an early
warning system for malaria risk. View Document Annex
- Assessing drought and
enabling adaptation through rainwater harvesting at Idamelanda
(2007-9): Scarcity assessments climate analysis was
developed to support Rain Water Harvesting policy, design and

Expertise
Available expertise at FECT
FECT has expertise in social sciences, engineering, agricultural,
information technology and applied sciences. These resources
ensure the "FECT capability on providing course on Climate Change
in South Asia. We have further support from the experts who helped
us develop the proposals listed under the About FECT tab. Other
affiliated experts are listed in our catalogue and brochure.
Posters
FECT has produced over 20 posters that provides background on
climate and hydrology and its impacts on agriculture, resources
management, wildlife, public health, renewable energy, disaster
risk and water resources in collaboration with our project
partners. We have also produced over 20 posters on the climate
over Sri Lanka. These posters are available for download by MDP
students and faculty.

FECT library
The holdings are available
for reference for MDP faculty and students in Digana.
FECT holdings are strong in climate, climate impacts,
meteorology, oceanography, hydrology, enviroment of Sri Lanka,
water resources management, natural resources management,
disaster risk management, data analysis, applied mathematics and
manuals for climate and statistical software. We also hold an
eclectic collections of Sri Lanka journals and the Bulletin of
