- June 2001: Visit by Dr. H. Manthrithillake and meetings
with Mary Pearl, Fred Koontz and others at Wildlife Trust
- October 2001: Meetings with Fred Koontz, Prithiviraj Fernando
and Chandra Giri leads to an interest in sending a proposal for
the IRI-seed funding. Marc Levy and John Mickelson of CIESIN, Dr.
H. Manthrithillake from Mahaweli Authority, Benno
Blumenthal from IRI joins in. Proposal submitted on Climate
and Human-Elephant Conflict.
- February 2002: Project Reviewed favourably with request for revisions,
Dr. Neil Ward agrees to join in the project.
- March 2002: Revision of Seed-Funding Proposal on Climate
and Human-Elephant Conflict and Approval of Project Proposal.
- March 2002: Extended Visit to Frontier Research System
for Global Change, Japan by Lareef Zubair .
- April 2002: John Mickelson of CIESIN visits Sri Lanka for data gathering
and familiarization
- July 2002: Lareef Zubair visits Sri Lanka for data gathering and
recruits a GIS operator, data entry operator and Research Assistant to
work on this project.
- Meeting between Raman Sukumar, Fred Koontz and John Mickelson about
collaboration at LDEO. John briefs others on field visit. Sukumar to explore
obtaining Indian RS images.
- July 2002: Web Site for IRI component of project launched.
- September 2002, Review Meeting of Co-PI's: Fred Koontz, Pruthu,
John and Lareef
