1.   Project Proposal: Provide Assistance to Affected People with their documentation needs identified by the GS-Ihalawela   – 1st Quarter 2018
Background
We hope to provide guidance sessions offered to affected people on documentation needs in Kengalla area.
Target Group – Affected people in Kengalla area
Objectives: Rendering our support to restore the documents that were lost to the fire by helping the affected to reapply and recover the documents
Time Frame
Assistance and guidance will be provided at any time starting from May 2018
Resources and Budget
Services and guidance will be provided by staff and experts and through donors
Budget: 10,000/=

  • Project Proposal: Undertake Direct Assistance to Few Families in Kengalla who need immediate assistance identified with assistance of Advisory Committee

Background
We hope to develop an integrated linkage system between the the families who need immediate assistance with advisory through collaborations with advisory committees. This proposal will be in collaboration with Tropical climate.
Targeted Group
Any affected family who need immediate assistance on advisory.

The program objectives for consultation, education and assistance for any families who are residence of Kengalla

  • Project Proposal: Convert part of our office into a training center for about 12 persons

Background: We are planning to provide training on disaster preparedness, security and fire service, counselling and psychology and communication skills. Our center will be employed as the center for the training. The program will mainly consist with practical sessions and theory parts. We shall undertake the program by experienced professionals while facilitating the trainees with adequate resources. People with A/L qualifications and further educational qualification are highly preferred.  

Objectives: The objective of the program is to educate and train people with some essential skills and encourage them succeed their future.
Scope:

  • Training on disaster preparedness security and fire service.
  • Providing psychology and counselling supports.
  • Communication and presentation skills.

Time frame: The proposed time allocation for this project will be starting from May.
Resource and budget
Voluntary services will be provided by staff and we hope to find donors for the project.
Budget: 35 ,000/=
4. Project Proposal: Convert part of our office as a resource center to assist affected persons identified by GS
Background: The program focuses on the affected persons and their rehabilitation. We shall provide assistance and to some needy people who are affected in terms of vocational training such as handicraft. Our office shall be employed as the center of the program.
Objectives: The main objective of the program is to encourage and give hand to the affected ones with some vocational trainings.
Scope: Training on handcrafts.
Guidance for future career.
Time Frame: The program is scheduled will be stating in May.
Resources and Budget: Voluntary services will be provided by staff and we hope to find donors for the project.
Budget: 35,000/=

5. Project Proposal: Career Guidance/ Counseling for 10-30 Unemployed youth with Advanced Level or Diploma in Kengalla region. 1st Quarter 2018
Background
Today, awareness about career guidance is still very low among younger generation.To ensure a sustainable and a successful future it is important that you get right guidance from right person. Keeping this in mind we propose to hold a career guidance session to a selected target group in the Kundasale Divisional Secretariat.

Objectives

  • To plan students’ future
  • To bring clear sight to their goals

Scope
Through this project students/ participants will be aware of their career options, understand their goals and they will be able to organize their future education plans accordingly.

The Career Guidance and Counseling session will be conducted from any time starting from August 2018

Background
Through this project we intend to raise awareness and also interest among school children on real time climate monitoring and how we do predictions based on the data we monitor.
Target Group – Ordinary Level, Advanced Level Students in 1 School in Kengalla
Objectives

  • To make school children aware of the modern tools and techniques of weather monitoring
  • To introduce weather monitoring as a potential science project at their school
  • To engage students in  practical learning and thinking
  • To make the students aware of their surroundings, geography and climate

  • Project Proposal: Conduct Dengue Prevention Presentation in 15 School in Kengalla region – 2nd Quarter

Background
This is an initiative by Tropical Climate to help raise awareness about Dengue in the Kengalla and Digana area to help alleviate the Dengue risk. In September 2017 Tropical Climate conducted a study on Dengue in Kundasale D.S Division and thriugh this study we hope to conduct Dengue Prevention Program in 2 Schools in Kengalla and Digana.

 

Target Group – 1 School in Kengalla and 1 School in Digana

Scope
The proposed project will include an interactive session that promote sharing and exchange of prevention strategies in 2 selected schools in Manikhinna and Digana – Awareness Programs in Dengue prevention and control.

  • Communication and Dissemination flyer, poster the public/school children aware of this risk through communication methods – flyers, posters, short film

Objectives

  • To share experiences and information with different stakeholders to discuss the challenges of dengue control in Kundasale Division.
  • To observe the climate change and factors that contribute the development of dengue in Kundasle Division
  • To introduce the latest development in surveillance systems, environmental management through weather monitoring instruments to prevent dengue
  • To establish a communication channel that facilitates and promotes exchange of information on dengue in order to foster an effective and long-term cooperation relationship within the community

  • Project Proposal: Conduct Solid Waste Management Presentation for School Children in Kengalla region – 2nd Quarter 2018

Background
Solid waste accumulation is a severe problem that affects Sri Lanka. We propose a program on SWM which mainly aims at starting up a solid waste management (SWM) scheme in two selected Schools of Kengalla Division. Another priority area of this proposal is to promote organic farming and the utilization of organic compost; the plan encourages for instance the conversion of municipal solid waste into vermicompost.
Target Group: Two Schools in Kundasale DS (Digana and Kengalla)

Objectives
Introducing the concept and implementation of SWM among the school children thereby improving the local environment and offering a hand for social welfare.
Scope

  • Awareness/ education on 4R + and demonstration to the school children
  • Awareness/education & demonstration sessions in the implementation and elements of Solid waste management
  • Education session on organic farming and composting

  • Project Proposal: Chess Seminar and Speed Chess Tournament in Kengalla –2nd Quarter 2018

Background
We have identified chess as an effective teaching tool, thus we propose a chess program for school children. Through this program they can benefit from learning something new and develop their problem-solving skills, planning, win lose gracefully and focus of thought and self-discipline.
Elementary Chess - We propose to teach elementary chess for children from age 6- 10. This program will start as an introductory lesson for children who are being introduced for Chess for the first time. Students from any age group can join this program
Chess to improve – This is for children who are familiar with chess and the games. Our chess experts shall try to further improve their skills. Students from all age group shall join these program/teaching sessions.
Taught by – Volunteer Chess enthusiasts and chess instructors (No. of 4)
Target Group

  • Below 10 , Age 10 – 15  and Age 15 and above

Objectives

  • Chess to improve children’s lives
  • To introduce children a new hobby
  • Improve concentration and logical thinking for kids

Scope
Through this project students will be able to learn something new which is out of their school curriculum. This will also help them to overcome stress and other external burden in their life. All sessions/ classes will be free of charge and the instructors will be volunteers who are chess enthusiasts.

Time frame
The elementary chess seminar in which our instructors shall introduce basic chess for new chess players will be for 90 minutes starting from July.

The speed chess tournament will be conducted by Tropical Climate for children from age 12 to above from 2 schools in Digana and Kengalla starting from August 2018

10. Project Proposal: Art Exploration for Affected Children in Kengalla and Digana Area – 3rd Quarter 2018
Background

Through this project we hope to get the children in Kundasale division schools to explore their ideas and connect with the environment. When kids are encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.
Target Group – School Children from Kengalla

Scope

The theme will be on Trauma and loss will be starting from July and the theme of emotions/yourself will be conducted from September 2018.

11. Project Proposal: Paper Quilling Training for Women and Girls in Kengalla – 3rd Quarter 2018

Background
Paper quilling is a useful hobby and it has a good market potential if produced for that purpose, women and girls could do this at home and contribute to the household economy or do it as a hobby. This creative art is also a good method to relieve stress.
Target Group – Women and girls in Kengalla
Objectives

  • To increase the market potential for handicrafts/ creative art
  • To engage the women to a productive hobby other than watching TV
  • To break the monotony of their daily chores in life
