International Students and Scholars
The MDP program at the University
of Peradeniya is developing a portal
for International Students. The MDP program has information for international students as well at its site. FECT shall contribute to
the development of this portal and also provide additional
information for International Students from the Maldives, South
Asia and elsewhere and also facilitate internship opportunities
and cross-registration from the International Network of MDP's.
Student Enrolment in the MDP at the University of
Peradeniya
Our MDP program welcomes the enrolment of international students -
international students are likely to enrich the learning
experience of all students. For the International student,
the program at Peradeniya provides a quality education at a low
cost in a context of multiple sustainable development challenges
in Sri Lanka, Maldives and the region. FECT seeks to facilitate
the enrolment of international students to the MDP course in
collaboration with the University of Peradeniya.
Internship Opportunities for International Students
FECT personnel have overseen the work of 20
students at Columbia University, City University of New York,
L'Ecole de Mines de Paris, Barnard College and the University of
North Dakota on various aspects of sustainable development
in Sri Lanka. Some of these students were able to visit while
others undertook the work remotely. FECT shall facilitate
the Internships of students from the MDP network and similar
programs in Sri Lanka and Maldives. Typical opportunities for
Internship are described under the Internship Tab here. We shall
work with the hosting organizations to customize the opportunity
for each student.
The first international student visitor who interacted with us was Miji Park, MDP 2012. While researching for a project on deviant entrepreneurial behaviour of disaster affected communities, she presented her travelogue at her blog
Coursework in Sri Lanka as Part of Semester Abroad
The philosophy of the MDP network promotes cross pollination among
the different programs. Thus we shall seek to facilitate the
placement of students with the collaboration of the University of
Peradeniya. There may be practical difficulties such as
synchronizing the academic calendar among institutions that we
shall seek to mitigate.
